This novel handmade Hopi Morning Singer Kachina was handcrafted by Toby Henderson. Henderson’s family is from the Borrago Pass Reservation in new Mexico, and he comes from a long line of silversmiths which includes his mother and grandparents. He was taught his art by his own grandparents in order to carry the tradition at a very young age. This piece was created in order to commemorate the September 11th incident. It has a beautifully carved American flag on the back of it, and it states “United We Stand”. The Hopi Morning Kachina represents early morning/dawn because they appear at dawn during the bean dance to sing songs in order to wake others up in the village, and announce the news. The item is made from sterling silver (32 ounces), as well as turquoise. It stands approximately 10 and a half inches tall, and weighs 2 pounds. Additionally, the parts are all removable.
